While finishing the website for amagerkollegiet.dk (one of Copenhagen’s larger dormitories) I found myself feeling that the site was missing something. Something that would inspire new and potential residents by representing Amagerkollegiet with it’s unique housing and beautiful surroundings of wide-open green gardens.
Originally I fought of having a video tour as an introducing to the site, but then decided to make something more static. Something that visitors wouldn’t just skip to get to content. Something that would serve as a visual representation of the dormitory without taking too much focus from the actual content of the site.
And so I decided on making a 3D model of the dormitory housing/apartment.
A 1:1000 scaled model capsuling the inclined rooftop giving every resident a second floor loft plus extending the building with a unique terrace as seen below.
I created the model using Google SketchUp for sizing and basic structuring while actual modeling and shading was done using Maxon Cinema 4D – my preferred 3D renderer.
I also made a quicktime render giving the visitors a possibility to view the apartment from different angels.
